01 - 01 - 2018

Living far away from country more than half of the life, Chairman of IPPG has still devoted most of his time and energy to Vietnam.

Connecting Vietnam to the World by the air

Since 1974, when Mr Johnathan Hanh Nguyen was 23 years old, he and his family moved to Philippines. After that, he studied in the US as the major of airline industry and became Chief Executive Officer of Philippines Airlines in Indochina. At his position, he had always concerned about what to do to contribute to his country.

Before 1985, travelling from Vietnam to other countries, especially by the air was very difficult. At that time, Vietnam economy still was a subsidized economy and most of the flights had to transit at Bangkok, Thailand.

In that situation, Mr Johnathan knew that he had to do something to improve the country. In 1985, he and his partner from Vietnam launched the first flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Manila (Philippines). This was a big turning point in the development history of Vietnam’s aviation as well as the relation between Vietnam – Philippines.

It was such an important decision that he made since those flights improved the travelling between two countries. Besides, the trade between Vietnam and other countries in the region also had progressed through the expansion of aviation.

Calling for foreign investment in Vietnam

In 1990, when Vietnam and the United States started normalization of the relation, Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen started calling for investment from foreign investors. However, it was not easy since the business market in Vietnam at that time was quite risky and that became a big hurdle for investors. However, eventually, he was successful in persuading them by willing to take the responsibility for the debt or any losses.

Located in the center of Ho Chi Minh City, Rex Shopping Arcade invested by IPPG has become the converging spot of many world leading fashion brands since 2010.

Mr Johnathan Hanh Nguyen shared that “I took risk because I saw the huge development potential of Vietnam”. Excluding the air route between Vietnam – the Philippines, the first domestic of Mr Johnathan was the manufacture of rattan products to export in the coastal city Nha Trang. And that brought a great success for Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen with less capital requirement, but still provided employments for nearly 8.000 local employees.

Trang Tien Plaza invested & renovated by IPPG is home of world’s top 20 luxury fashion & cosmetic brands.

After this success, Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen continued calling for foreign investment with 18 other projects in various industries such as automotive assembly, rattan processing, zipper manufacturing process or investment in hotels & resorts… After 33 years, Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPPG) established by Mr Johnathan Hanh Nguyen in 1985 has now been one of the top multi-industry corporations in Vietnam with 17 subsidiaries and 18 joint ventures. Currently, IPPG has more than 100 top World brands in fashion, F&B and wine.

With the desire to devote to country, Mr Johnathan Hanh Nguyen and IPPG will constantly look beyond the present to grasp the potential and continue the journey “Bringing the best of the World to Viet Nam”.
