On June 30th, IPPG and partners officially opened Cam Ranh International Terminal (T2) which has been under construction since 2016. From now on, International Terminal will be the main gateway to Khanh Hoa province.

Initiated in September 2016, Cam Ranh International Terminal has been one of the biggest project of IPPG and partners with total investment capital of 3,735 billion VND. This will increase the airport’s passenger handling capacity to 8 million passengers a year by 2030, and 4000 passengers at rush hours.

Cam Ranh International Airport has been playing the important role for tourism development of Khanh Hoa Province in general and of South Central region in particular. Over the years, the increase of international tourists especially Chinese and Russian has made Cam Ranh International Airport become overload and clutter.

Cam Ranh International Terminal (T2) takes inspiration from Salanganes’ nest, a bird’s nest popularly seen in Khanh Hoa Province. The new terminal will be a two-storey building with a total floor area of approximately 50,000m², 4 apron for wide-body aircraft, 6 mobile apron with 8 pipe and 12 mobile lifts.

Durin the construction, IPPG and partners had to face many difficulties and challenges. At the grand-opening ceremony, Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen – Chairman of Cam Ranh Terminal Company (CRTC) said that: “When we started to build Cam Ranh International Terminal, we met a lot of challenges and pressure. It was limit time and the limit budget for 3-star Terminal while the construction was about 4 star Terminal in reality. In addition, the terminal’s location is far away from the residence and the construction had gone under the bad weather condition such as in the strongest tropical storm in South Central region in the last December. All of these made us face some of difficulties.”

Before that, on June 29th, Vietnam Airlines has landed the first flight to the new Terminal from Chengdu (China).

Currently, there are 20 international airlines which serve 63 international destinations, including scheduled flights and charter flights at Cam Ranh and 238 international flight in average weekly.

At the end of the opening ceremony, Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen shared that: “Following standards of SkyTrax, we believe that Cam Ranh International Terminal will become the smart, professional and warming destination to welcome tourists from over the world. And this will connect Vietnam in general and Khanh Hoa Province in particular to the international friends. Furthermore, the new terminal will contribute to the development of infrastructure, attract more investment, enhance tourism, economic and create more jobs for local people, which improves the people’s lives in Khanh Hoa Province and surrounding areas.
